EU Set to Continue Asian Shoe Duties
In a move that will impact on promotional clothing/footwear suppliers, EU ministers are expected to vote to continue import duties on shoes from China and Vietnam. The meeting planned for 22 December is likely to vote for a 15month extension in favour of continuing the duties.
If approved the extension will levy up to 16.5% on leather shoes from China and 10% on those from Vietnam and will come into force on 3 January 2010.
In 2006 the Commission first imposed the tariffs after European manufacturers complained that they were unable to compete with the low cost producers from China and Vietnam.
