The Facts About The Bag Tax

As most of us know, plastic bags litter the countryside, harm wildlife and take a long time to bio-degrade compared to paper bags that are easy to recycle and are exempt from the enforced charge to the customer.

To discourage the use of plastic bags, charges begin in England starting the 5th of October, 2015 as part of the policy to reduce waste, see it here: http://bit.ly/1PeXm3A. This means larger retailers must charge customers 5p(including VAT) for most single use plastic bags, and this only applies to retailers employing over 249 staff. For a smaller employer, implementing the charge is optional. Instead, charity boxes could be made available for donations from customers who wish to support the charging policy.
