Statement from Rod Duncan, chairman of PROMOTA

Posted in Industry News on Mon 8 Mar 2010

“Last week negotiations recommenced with the bpma with a view to a formal merger between the two associations on or around 1 May, 2010.

“These talks are still at an early stage and no decisions have yet been reached. In order for any amalgamation to proceed, the PROMOTA board will need to ratify the move, after which members will vote on whether or not they want the amalgamation to happen based on the facts.

“Any merger will ultimately be the decision of our membership, as it is their businesses which would feel the impact of any amalgamation with the bpma. Members will need to look at the advantages and disadvantages of any proposed merger, and make a decision based on that.

“In the meantime, PROMOTA continues to stand by the values which it has established over more than half a century, and remains an independent organisation with a proud history. The recent, very successful, show and awards evening at the NEC demonstrates the continued support an independent organisation receives from the industry, and the value it affords members.”

What happens next:

The board will meet in the next two weeks to ratify the proposed merger, after which members will receive documents to enable them to make their own decision regarding the proposal.
